2010 Program

This year Beyond Hotham has expanded to a 10 day program. I have summarized the program details as they are, it is not complete. The dates for Pat Callinan and other guests need to be confirmed. Please get in touch with me for any clarification of these details.

Don't forget, you need to register before April 2 to go in the draw for the set of BFGoodrich tyres. Refer to website for Registration form. www.beyondhotham.com.au

Current Program Outline

Thursday 8th

The first day of our 10 day program.

Participants can spend the afternoon settling into their accommodation and perhaps going for a walk around Hotham.

Know your Vehicle. The workshop will be open and you are encouraged to let our mechanics check your vehicle.

5.30pm Official Opening and Welcome. Join us at the summit of Mount Hotham for a stunning sunset.

We are hoping Spatial Vision will use this opportunity to launch one of their new 4wd maps. Pat Callinan will also be in attendance. (not yet confirmed at this stage)

Friday 9th

Choose from a range of guided and self guided trips on offer. Self guided trips include Day out in Dargo, All about Omeo and the Great Alpine Loop.

Guided trips will include:

  • Fire Awareness and First Aid with Larry Doyle
  • Beyond Mayford with Graeme Price.
  • Feathertop and StoneyTops with Kevin Raymond and Parks Victoria
  • Beyond Buckland with Gavin Moody
  • Dogs, Dugouts and Delusion with Fiona, the happy hut historian
  • Geocaching 101 with Alan Arthur.

Half day activities will include a walk with Parks Victoria and Know your Vehicle Workshop, and Shadow our Environmental Officer, Bev

At days end we will have a Gapsted Wine Tasting and Happy Hour at Kalyna Lodge where you can view slide show photos from the days' activities and enjoy the static display of participants' photos, as well as browse the traders' tables for books, bibs and bobs. (All 4wd related). We will then have a BBQ dinner to end the day.

Saturday 10th

The days' offerings will be similar to Fridays with guided trips including:

  • Steaming right along with Andy Keily
  • Blue Rag and Mt Buckland with Senior Sargeant Doug Incoll
  • Bring home the best memories with Geoff Boulton (Photography)
  • Beyond the Winch with Trevor Taylor
  • Dogs, Dugouts and Delusion with Fiona, our happy hut historian

5.30pm we will meet in the Corral Carpark and drive to our mystery dinner location for the most amazing meal you'll ever have. A Heavenly Gourmet Dinner Under the Stars. Peter James from Lara Electronics will launch the new Radio Network for emergency communication in remote areas. This Dinner is hosted by the Four Wheel Drive Association of Victoria.

Sunday 11th

Self guided trips available and guided trips will include:

  • Beyond Buckland Gold with Gavin Moody
  • Mystery tagalong with Graeme Price
  • Women behind the Wheel with Shane Murray (fwd Victoria)
  • Navigating and intro to geocaching with GPS Geoffrey

Inaugural “Sleeping Around” display featuring slip-ons, swags, and 4x4 camper trailers

½ day activities will include:

  • Reversing Competition, Tyre Talk, Shadowing the Environmental Officer, walk with Parks Victoria.

5.30pm The evening highlight will be a night drive with GPS Geoffrey and Trevor (supper provided $8pp) BYO mug and torch. This trip is supported by Lightforce.

Monday 12th

Inaugural “Sleeping Around” display featuring slip-ons, swags and 4x4 camper trailers.

Time to prepare your vehicles for the overnight trips. refuel and do some shopping. Alps Bus Link bus return trip to Bright today.

In the afternoon we will run another Women Behind the Wheel and the Reversing Competition. 5.30-6.30pm Happy Hour followed by Pizza and film night at the General (pay the General on the night)

Tuesday 13th

9.30am Briefing in Corral carpark for all overnight trips. There will be a choice of 3 trips. Each trip will run for two nights but there will be the option of only joining for only the first night.

  • Buckland Roundabout with Gavin Moody, Steve Gribble and Andrew Swift. Camping out in swags or slide-ons, at Beveridge Station and Talbotville. Opportunity to refuel at Porepunkah and Dargo if needed. Welcome to carry own fuel. Self catereing.
  • Getting High on History with Graeme Price and Jim Atteridge. You are welcome to bring 4wd camper trailers on this trip. Nights at Talbotville and Mayford. Self catering.
  • Taking Care of things with Graham Harris and Greg O'Donohue.

Camping in swags and slid-ons for your nights at McNamaras Hut and Talbotville. Self catering.

Wednesday 14th

Out and about with the overnighters

Thursday 15th

For those participants joining Beyond Hotham for just the second weekend registration opens at 2pm. The afternoon can be spent at the Know your Vehicle Workshop (2 hours) and/or self guided Walking tour of Hotham.

5.30-6.30pm Welcome to new participants and Gapsted Happy Hour at Kalyna Lodge where you can view photos from the days' activities on slide show and the static display of participants photos, as well as browse the traders tables for books, bibs and bobs. (All 4wd related) Golden Opportunity Roast Dinner with Guest speaker (pay on the night to the General)

Friday 16th

Choose from a range of guided and self guided trips on offer. Self guided trips include Day out in Dargo, All about Omeo and the Great Alpine Loop.

  • Steaming Right Along with Andy Kiely
  • Beyond Blue Rag with Graham Harris and Mal Leslie
  • Feathertop and Stoney Tops with Kevin Raymond and Parks Victoria
  • Hut History and Mt Delusion with Ken and Vicki

6pm Night Drive with GPS Geoffrey Geoff and Trevor (supper provided $8pp) BYO mug and torch. This trip is supported by Lightforce.

Saturday 17th

The days' offerings will be similar to Fridays with day trips including:

  • Navigation with GPS Geoffrey
  • Dogs Grave and Beyond with Graham Harris and Mal Leslie
  • Dogs, Dugouts and Delusion with Fiona, the happy hut historian
  • Beyond Buckland with Gavin Moody
  • Graeme Prices' Magical Mystery Tour

5.30pm we will meet in the Corral Carpark and drive to our mystery dinner location for the most amazing meal you'll ever have. A Heavenly Gourmet Dinner Under the Stars. This Dinner is kindly and generously hosted by the Four Wheel Drive Association of Victoria.

Sunday 18th

A busy morning with lots of interesting sessions:

  • Women behind the Wheel,
  • Tricky Trevor Taylor Reversing Competition, Winching demonstration,
  • Tyre Talk with Adrian,
  • Low range with Gavin'n'Gribbs
  • Winch safety demonstration with Mal Leslie

12 NOON Monster Farewell Gourmet Brunch, presentation of awards and prizes.

All Beyond Hotham trip leaders are highly skilled and well experienced drivers and include some of our own core staff, Parks Victoria, Victoria Police and Victorian fwd Association members and the G Force (Graham, Geoff and Graeme) our wonderful volunteers.

Throughout Beyond Hotham we will also run…

The Tricky Trevor Taylor Reversing Competition. Each participant is allowed one attempt at the Reversing Competition and a prize will be awarded to the one overall winner. No heats, just one go at it, that's all.

Make me a cuppa!! Competition. More details with your receipt. Prize is an EcoBilly from Opposite Lock in Wodonga.

4wd Photo Gallery. Please email or post your favourite 4wd photo and we'll have a prize for the photo voted the most popular.

Nissan Australia has provided a new Nissan Patrol. This vehicle will be used as trip leader vehicle and is also available for a test drive.
